Fairfield Police found the unidentified man around 9:07 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a 911 call from an employee at Wings Over Fairfield, 2075 Black Rock Turnpike, reporting that a man was shot in the back of the building, said Lt. Robert Kalamaras.

Police arrived on the scene within seconds and found the man lying on his back in the rear hallway of the restaurant, he said.

Kalamaras said the man may have shot himself, but detectives are still confirming the information.

"It is believed at this time that it was accidental based on evidence at the scene and statements made by the victim," Kalamaras said. "However, detectives are still looking into whether it may have been intentional."

Fairfield Police Officers immediately rendered first aid until he was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery and is currently listed in critical condition, Kalamaras said.

Police believe there is no threat to the public at this time.

The incident is being investigated by the Fairfield Police Department Detective Bureau.
